One of the best things I’ve done since quarantine began? Join the Virtual Insanity Book Club!
My lovers of a good book club will understand and feel this post the most. When you have a good bunch of folks to gossip about characters with, and they can relate to what you just read, all feels right with the world.
I’m going to share our reads thus far with you. I hope you find something you like or that you can take back to your own book clubs. If you don’t have one, maybe you should join or start one!
I love having people to help me tackle my reading goals for the year. However, if book clubs aren’t your jam, that’s okay too. Reading doesn’t require discussion, but it makes it so much more fun! Yes, even virtually!
When scrolling pays off
I like to think I’m not a big Facebook scroller. Me thinking it does not make it true! I am in fact a bonafide scroller. It’s not often that it pays off though. The day I saw a friend’s callout for virtual book club members, it paid off big time!
I wasn’t going to join, and definitely tried talking myself out of it. I didn’t know anyone except my friend who created the group (insert reason why I wasn’t going to join), and wasn’t really sure if this was going to be a good fit for me. Day one of our meeting, I was 100% in.
Virtual Insanity
My friend chose the name because the group started at a time when everything was shifting to virtual platforms due to COVID-19, and everything was definitely insane at the time. What she couldn’t have predicted (or maybe she did) was that this group would be off the rails insane. LOL The 12 of us became instant friends, although many of us didn’t know each other. We have such a good time!
We meet for an hour twice a week. It’s one of the most consistent things (besides work) I’ve done in the last few months! Partially because we have an amazing time together, and we read some interesting books (and some duds too) in the process. We only have one rule, and it’s to not read ahead. Violators get hella shamed. Ask me how I know. LOL
About that book list
Here’s what we’ve read thus far as a group. Our book list knows no bounds and floats across genres, although we haven’t yet delved into non-fiction. I won’t put our ratings in this list, but you can check out my profile on Goodreads and see what my personal rating is for each book.
