Why HelloFresh Gets My Money

A free HelloFresh box from a friend changed my life. I thought I was above “those meal kit delivery boxes.” I was wrong.

It may not be HelloFresh in your case, it may be another supplier, or some other type of service. Trust me though, you may want to think about bending your self-imposed rules. I definitely did.

You may be thinking “I love to cook. I don’t/need want one of those services.” That’s fair, and I get it. You will still be intrigued by why it works for me.

Houston, We Have a Problem

I like, maybe even love, to cook. Seriously, I get joy and a level of peacefulness from it…most times. In my adult/relationship-hood, I have come to discover there are times when I despise cooking. The first being when I don’t have a taste for anything, and second being when someone takes my cooking for granted because they know I like to do so.

A Boxed Meal Kit Though?

Yes, a box! In the last few years, I have come to the conclusion that grocery delivery is one of the best things in life. If you have read other posts on here, you know how I feel about it. So I see HelloFresh as an amped up grocery delivery service since they tell me what to cook. My mom told me I was being lazy. I told her I was freeing myself. LOL To me there’s a big difference!

Why I Really Did It

I’m going to try to be brief, but these reasons really sum up when I took the plunge.

  1. When I first had the idea to write this post, I was going to call it “5 Ways HelloFresh Saves Relationships,” and I still may write that at some point, but that’s my #1 reason why I signed up. The dreaded “What do you want to do for dinner” question is asked FAR less these days. Thank goodness! That question wreaks havoc on relationships, or at least ours. If neither of us have a taste for a particular meal, it’s legitimately one of the most frustrating conversations ever. With those HelloFresh bags in the fridge, it happens a lot less! If this question is asked too frequently in your home, get somebody’s box! LOL
  1. I’m a meal planner when I’m at my best. When I’m not, it becomes a takeout fest around here. I tell that tragic story in Ending My Relationship with Takeout. I like to post up on Sunday mornings, figure out what’s on the menu for the week, and order my groceries accordingly. It’s almost calming. When HelloFresh is in the mix, that’s at least 3 less meals I have to plan. I get to just plug them into the schedule. Even better, I don’t have to add anything major to the grocery list for those meals (unless we’re out of butter or oil)!

  1. I get kitchen help a whole lot more often because of those handy step by step recipes. This might be my main reason, lol. My love is not a cook. Granted, he has a few things he can make well, but it is not a lot. With these recipes, he’s become the best sous chef (and sometimes chef), ever! The best part is that I don’t have to give instruction because it’s all right on the card. Gamechanger!

I’m not saying dinner boxes are the best thing since sliced bread, but I am saying that they help me from having to slice the bread myself, butter it, and toast it!
